Instagram Takeover: Abigail Powers
This is Abigail Powers. She was born and raised in Farmington, MI and moved to Milford in 2012. Abigail started her career as a graphic designer but soon realized sitting at a computer all day would not work. Abby then became a K-12 art teacher. She began her teaching journey at Milford High School in 2007. In 2010 she took a full time position at Muir Middle School and taught for ten years.
Although seeing what the kids created under her leadership was amazing, and teaching was a fulfilling career, Abigail felt something was missing. Turning inward to her own art practice during the pandemic showed her that a daily creative routine was just what she needed. Throughout 2020, she turned to drawing and painting as a way to get through the long days at home. Abigail is now pursuing her art full time. She balances her days in her home studio doing graphic design work for various companies and watercolor / pen & ink original paintings.
Now that her weeks are full of creativity, Abigail looks to nature and her love of music and writing for inspiration. Her work is bright, cheerful and you can’t help but smile when viewing it. Many of her pieces would fit into any home and add that pop of color that is sometimes missing from design today.
In the summer you can find her at local art shows, such as Eastern Market and Finder’s Keepers events. She is also a regular at our very own Milford Farmers’ Market (opening day is tomorrow)!
Her work is currently being sold on Etsy and at Abigailleighdesigns.com.
