Meet Amy Day & Ellen Zimmerman, owners of Michigan Blooms, a floral design studio rooted in Commerce Township and White Lake, Michigan. With years of combined experience in floristry, their passion for flowers goes beyond just arranging bouquets—it’s about sustainability, creativity, and community. “We knew our creativity, our love of flowers and design, and our dream of working together were a perfect combination for success,” Amy and Ellen share. What started as a dinner conversation with their husbands in January 2024 quickly turned into reality. Armed with a document called Flower Dreaming, they mapped out their vision, and in just three months, they launched their business, built a studio, and even planted their first year’s crops at their micro flower farm.
Michigan Blooms offers three main services: wedding and event floral design, floral preservation, and hands-on workshops that bring people together through creativity. Their foam-free floral design and commitment to using fresh, locally grown blooms set them apart, and their preservation work ensures that clients can keep cherished flowers forever. “What we didn’t anticipate was the excitement around what we were offering,” they recall. “The fact that we not only used fresh, local flowers but also offered pressed and dried floral creations was new and different—and people loved it!” Their business grew organically, and with a thriving online shop featuring Michigan-made floral gifts, there are even more ways to experience Michigan Blooms.
For Amy and Ellen, owning their business is about more than just flowers—it’s about building relationships and fostering creativity. “Flowers bring people together, and we have witnessed that first-hand,” they say. From working alongside local flower farmers to leading hands-on workshops, their favorite moments come from sharing their love of floristry with others. Whether they’re designing wedding florals, preserving sentimental blooms, or tending to their micro farm in White Lake, they’re living their flower dream every day.
