Melanie Plank

Meet Melanie Plank, owner of Play and Grow LLC in Milford, Michigan.

Melanie grew up in Milford, received her master's degree from Western Michigan University in occupational therapy, and after a few years of living in North and South Carolina, resides in Brighton with her husband Dan and two sons, Drew and Wesley.

“I had been practicing occupational therapy for about 9 years and was ready for a change,” Melanie says. “I had kids of my own and I knew the area did not have anything like this. I wanted to combine my background in occupational therapy with my love for gymnastics.”

Play and Grow currently offers Tumbling, Ninja, and Baby Sign Language.  Children will learn  motor skills like jumping, climbing, and balancing; cognitive skills like following directions, cause and effect, and memory; and social & emotional skills like taking turns, overcoming fears, and confidence.  “t really is quite amazing to see children progress within an 8 week session. Sometimes I have kids come in who are very hesitant to participate and by the end they are trying everything and letting me assist them,” Melanie says. Sessions last 8 weeks and classes are 40 minutes. Open Play is a two hour block and you can register one day at a time.

“I love supporting families and seeing happy kids. It feels so good when the adults voice their appreciation or when I get a big smile and hug from a child.” Melanie adds, “I enjoy having the flexibility of scheduling so that I can be involved in my children's school events, etc.”

“I love Milford and the surrounding community. I have felt very supported as a new business owner. I think it is very special that we have a network of women business owners who support each other.”
