Dr. Fariba Hickinson
Meet Fariba Hickinson, a dedicated Optometrist and a health care professional at Henry Ford OptimEyes. Fariba provides comprehensive eye exams, diagnoses and treats diseases of the eyes. “I feel lucky to have chosen a career that helps people see better and as a member of the community, I am proud to serve my hometown, Milford and communities around it,” explains Fariba.
Fariba was born in Iran and later moved to Southern California as a teenager. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Illinois College of Optometry. Fariba moved to Michigan in 1993 with her husband and since then, has been an Optometrist at OptimEyes in Milford. She has two college-aged daughters.
Outside of work, she and her husband are members of the Baha’is of Huron Valley, which advocates for racial unity, gender equality, universal education, harmony of science and religion and the elimination of prejudice. Fariba is also on the planing committee for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee in Milford, which organizes an annual march on Main in Milford celebrating the vision and legacy of Dr. King.
Additionally, Fariba is a member of the Zonta Club of the Milford, a local and global organization with mission to improve the educational, economic, legal and professional status of women both locally and globally. She also serves on the school board of Divine Mercy Academy, a K-8 school in Livonia that works to help kids who learn differently succeed academically, socially, personally, and spiritually.
Fariba believes in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “Whatever affects one, directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”
