This July, we're heading out to Proud Lake State Recreation Area for an adventure along the stunning Huron River and Proud Lake Marsh loops! Expedition Detroit, our guide, is all about celebrating and protecting our region's natural beauty, and this guided hike will be a fantastic way to experience it firsthand. This meetup is limited to only 20 members - so RSVP now to secure your spot!

The folks at Expedition Detroit are not just experts in the outdoors; they're passionate locals who've spent years exploring the Detroit region's wilderness. With Wilderness First Aid certification, Leave No Trace Awareness training, and extensive outdoor experience, they're equipped to lead you safely along the trail while sharing their wealth of knowledge about the area. Plus, they're eager to introduce you to the transformative power of nature – the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits that come from spending time outdoors.

For this hike, we'll meet at Proud Lake’s “Huron River Fishing Site" parking lot (directly east of where Wixom Rd. crosses the river), where your adventure will begin. This guided hike offers an engaging 3.1-mile loop along the southern bank of the Huron River, through towering pines, and around Proud Lake's central marsh. The experience will provide plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife, capture breathtaking photos, and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of one of southeast Michigan's most beloved wetland habitats. With an easy trail rating and minimal elevation gain, it's perfect for all skill levels. Just don't forget your Michigan Recreation Passport for parking! So, lace up your hiking boots, and get ready for an unforgettable experience in nature with Expedition Detroit and Women In Milford.

Today's Expedition Detroit hike through Proud Lake Recreation Area was an absolute blast. Katie and Dan led us on a 3.2 mile hike through woods, marshes, past vernal pools and river side. Dan was a wealth of information and gave us the full history of the area and described all things fauna and flora along the way. 

Being out in nature helped us all take in the moment, recharge, and move our bodies. We also became informed on how we can be better stewards of all that Michigan's beautiful trails have to offer.

We cannot thank @expeditiondetroit for planning the perfect hike for our group of badass women. We're all feeling refreshed and happier after the gorgeous morning together.
