We are so excited to bring you this exclusive workshop - limited to 15 people - by one of our beloved local artists, Abigail Powers!  Abigail, of Abigail Leigh Designs, created this year's 2023 Women In Milford Gala artwork by using Alcohol Art and this October, she's going to teach us how to make this beautiful art ourselves! If you RSVP and the class is full, you will be put on the waitlist and contacted if a spot opens up!

Alcohol art, the mesmerizing fusion of ink and alcohol, traces its origins to the world of abstract expressionism and experimentation in visual arts. Emerging as a unique and unpredictable medium, it gained prominence in the mid-20th century. Artists discovered that alcohol's volatile nature could create stunning and intricate patterns when combined with ink, producing ethereal landscapes and vivid textures that captured the imagination. Its popularity today can be attributed to its capacity for both spontaneity and control. Artists relish the unpredictable swirls and interactions of alcohol and ink, while also honing their skills to manipulate and guide the creative process. The results are captivating, evoking a sense of wonder and providing an avenue for self-expression that resonates with viewers, making alcohol art a beloved and vibrant form of contemporary artistic expression.

About Abby:

Abigail Powers was born and raised in Farmington, MI and moved to the Milford area in 2012. She started her career as a graphic designer but soon realized sitting at a computer all day would not work. Abby then became a K-12 art teacher. She began her teaching journey at Milford High School in 2007. In 2010 she took a full time position at Muir Middle School and was there for ten years.

Although seeing what the kids created under her leadership was amazing, and teaching was a fulfilling career, something was missing. Turning inward to her own art practice during the pandemic showed her that a daily creative routine was just what she needed. Throughout 2020, she turned to drawing and painting as a way to get through the long days at home. Abigail is now pursuing her art full time. She balances her days in her home studio doing graphic design work for various companies and watercolor / pen & ink original paintings.

Now that her weeks are full of creativity she looks to nature and her love of music and writing for inspiration. Her work is bright, cheerful and you canโ€™t help but smile when viewing it. Many of her pieces would fit into any home and add that pop of color that is sometimes missing from design today.

In the summertime you can find her at local art shows, such as, Milford Memories and Art in the Park. Her work is currently being sold in many local stores and on her website.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
